Between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci
Wake up with a view of the medieval village of Castagneto Carducci, breathe the air of the metalliferous hills and feel at the centre of a land that has inspired poets and travellers for centuries.
Our agriturismo is in a privileged position in the countryside of the Etruscan Coast, a few kilometres from the sea and within easy reach of Tuscany's main artistic and natural destinations.
Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri: history, wine and poetry
From our agriturismo you can enjoy an enchanting view of Castagneto Carducci, the village perched on the hills overlooking the entire valley. This small medieval jewel bears the name of Giosuè Carducci, the great Italian poet and Nobel Prize winner for Literature, who spent part of his childhood and youth here. It was this land that inspired some of his most celebrated lyrics, including the immortal Davanti San Guido, set along the legendary cypress avenue of Bolgheri.
A few minutes away, Bolgheri awaits you with its enchanted village, its world-famous wineries and that fragrant tree-lined avenue about five kilometres long that Carducci made eternal in his poetry. Today Bolgheri is also synonymous with great wines: it is the homeland of Sassicaia and the so-called "Super Tuscans", which revolutionised Italian winemaking. A walk through its cobbled lanes, a stop at a winery and a glass of Bolgheri DOC are experiences that complete the stay in the most authentic way.
The Etruscan Coast sea: steps from the agriturismo
In less than 15 minutes by car you reach the coast, where golden beaches and crystal-clear waters await you for days of pure relaxation. Marina di Castagneto Carducci (Donoratico) is the nearest beach, with large equipped lidos and stretches of free beach, ideal for families. A little further north is San Vincenzo, with its long seafront, harbour restaurants and lively seaside life. For those who love a more evocative and bohemian atmosphere, Castiglioncello — the "pearl" of the Tyrrhenian — offers rocky coves, transparent waters and a retro charm that has seduced artists and intellectuals for generations.
Florence and Siena: art within day-trip reach
Those who wish to combine countryside and seaside relaxation with a day of culture and artistic beauty will find plenty to enjoy. Siena can be reached in about an hour and a half by car (approx. 120 km): the city of the Palio, with the magnificent Piazza del Campo, the Cathedral and its contrade, is one of the unmissable stops on any trip to Tuscany. Florence is about two hours away (approx. 150 km): the cradle of the Renaissance, with the Uffizi, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Ponte Vecchio, deserves at least a full day. Both cities are also easily reachable by train from Donoratico or Cecina station.
Mountain bike trails: cycling among vineyards and woods
The countryside around our agriturismo is a paradise for mountain bike enthusiasts. The routes crossing the metalliferous hills, the Bolgheri vineyards and the Maremma woods offer itineraries suitable for all levels of difficulty. The more experienced can tackle the trails of Montioni Park and the climbs towards Castagneto Carducci with sweeping views of the sea; the more relaxed can enjoy the white roads among the wine estates, breathing the clean air of the Tuscan countryside. On request, we can provide maps of the main routes and advice to customise your ride.
Theme parks for the whole family
For those travelling with children, the area offers two reference amusement parks, both easily reachable from the agriturismo. Cavallino Matto in Donoratico (about 10 minutes from us) is Tuscany's most famous theme park: rides, shows, themed areas and attractions for all ages make it an unmissable stop for families. Acqua Park Cecina is the ideal destination for hot summer days, with slides, pools and play areas that offer hours of wet fun for young and old. Both are about 15–20 minutes by car from the agriturismo.
